Cascina Penna-Currado
Description
Cascina Penna-Currado is the new winemaking venture of Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti, joined by their children Giulia and Michele. After more than 30 years at the helm of the family business, the historic Vietti winery, they embarked on this personal project with the aim of reinterpreting the wine-making tradition of the Langhe in a contemporary way.
The winery is based in a historic farmhouse dating back to 1554, located on the hill crest of Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe. This building, which originally belonged to the Marchesi Falletti family, has undergone careful conservation restoration to return it to its original function as a winery.
Cascina Penna-Currado covers about 13 hectares of vineyards with altitudes between 560 and 850 meters above sea level. This choice makes it possible to meet the challenges of climate change and produce wines that express freshness, finesse and elegance.
Production focuses on native Piedmontese varieties, including Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Timorasso. In particular, Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago is the winery’s debut wine, with a label designed by artist Giuseppe Stampone, a symbol of the philosophy that inspires the project: a new journey in search of unexplored roads.
In the coming years, the winery plans to produce three separate Barolos: a Barolo Classico, made from a blend of grapes from prestigious MGAs, and two single cru Barolos. These include the San Lorenzo vineyards in Verduno and the Perno and San Giovanni vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, which bring freshness and structure. These wines will represent the evolution of the project in the coming years, with the aim of best expressing the peculiarities of individual terroirs.
Elena and Luca bring their vast experience in the wine industry to this project, combining tradition and innovation to create wines that reflect the essence of the Langhe territory and look to the future with authenticity and passion.
