Paitin di Pasquero Elia

Paitin di Pasquero Elia

Description

Paitin is a historic winery located in Neive, in the heart of Piedmont’s Langhe region. Founded in 1796 by Benedetto Elia, the winery has remained in the hands of the Pasquero-Elia family for more than eight generations, maintaining a winemaking tradition that spans more than two centuries.

The estate is located in the prestigious Serraboella area, one of the most renowned areas of Barbaresco. The “Sorì Paitin” vineyard, owned by the family since 1796, is known for its optimal exposure and unique soils, ideal for growing Nebbiolo. The term “Sorì” indicates the hilly areas where the snow melts first, signaling the best exposures for the vineyards.

Over the years, the winery has gone through several stages of development. In 1893, it launched Barbaresco del Sorì Paitin, and five years later, in 1898, it began exporting its wines abroad. After overcoming the challenges imposed by the two world wars, the winery was relaunched in 1965 under the direction of Secondo Pasquero-Elia, who inaugurated a new winery and undertook the renovation and expansion of the vineyards, enriching the viticultural heritage with new acquisitions.

Today, the farm is run by brothers Giovanni and Silvano Pasquero-Elia, who represent the seventh generation of the family. Both have shown a strong commitment to sustainable farming practices, converting the entire estate to organic production. This approach has allowed the vines, some of which are more than 60 years old, to thrive and produce high-quality grapes.

Paitin’s production philosophy is based on sustainable agricultural practices with the exclusive use of natural compounds such as sulfur and copper, avoiding the use of herbicides and favoring manual harvesting. In the winery, traditional Piedmontese techniques are adopted, with long macerations and aging in Slavonian and Austrian oak barrels, some of which are more than 15 years old.

The Pasquero-Elia family maintains strong ties to the land and wine tradition of the Langhe, continuing to produce wines that reflect the essence of the region’s terroir and cultural heritage.
