Description

Comando G is a Spanish winery founded in 2008 by Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García, friends since their studies in Enology and Viticulture at the University of Madrid. The name “Comando G” alludes to their specialization in Garnacha (Grenache) based wines from the Gredos region.

The winery’s goal is to produce wines that reflect the terroir, landscape and identity of the vineyards located in the Sierra de Gredos, a mountainous area about 100 kilometers west of Madrid, with altitudes between 900 and 1,200 meters above sea level. The vineyards, many with vines between 50 and 80 years old, are cultivated according to biodynamic practices, without the use of pesticides or chemicals, and plowing is done with horses to preserve the granitic soils with a sandy matrix.

Comando G’s production philosophy is inspired by Burgundy, with a classification of wines into “village,” “premier cru” and “grand cru,” depending on the origin of the grapes. Vinification involves spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts in open oak vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels of various sizes, concrete tanks or terracotta amphorae, with the aim of obtaining wines that express freshness, minerality and a strong link to the terroir.

Comando G has played a key role in revaluing Garnacha and bringing attention to the Sierra de Gredos as a fine wine region, inspiring a new generation of Spanish producers and helping to restore historic and abandoned vineyards.
