Emidio Pepe
Description
Emidio Pepe is a historic winery located in Torano Nuovo, in the heart of Abruzzo, founded in 1964 by Emidio Pepe, but with roots dating back to the late 800′ century when Emidio’s grandfather began making wine for domestic use. From the beginning, the winery’s philosophy has been guided by respect for nature and the region’s winemaking traditions, with an ongoing commitment to organic viticulture practices and artisanal production methods.
The winery is renowned for its approach to winemaking, which excludes the use of chemicals both in the vineyard and in the cellar, and for spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without filtration or clarification, to preserve the integrity and purity of the wine. Emidio Pepe has always believed in the aging potential of its wines, which is why the winery has a historical reserve that includes vintages dating back decades, keeping the history of Abruzzo’s terroir alive through the wine.
The winemaking techniques adopted by Emidio have been handed down from generation to generation, passing from the founder’s hands to those of his daughters Daniela and Sofia, along with granddaughters Elisa and Chiara, who continue to carry on the family tradition with the same passion and dedication that characterized Emidio’s original vision.
This generational transition has allowed the winery’s values and philosophy to remain intact while introducing new ideas and technologies that respect tradition.
Today the winery is internationally recognized for the quality of its wines, which are pure expressions of the region’s indigenous grape varieties, such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano, and are prized by connoisseurs and collectors worldwide for their ability to develop complexity and depth over the years.
Today Emidio Pepe is not just a winery, but a family heritage that has evolved over time, carrying on the legacy of a man who saw wine as the way to tell the story of his land. With each vintage, with each bottle that leaves the winery, the Pepe family continues to write the history of Abruzzo wine, confirming the importance of keeping traditions alive while evolving and adapting to change.
