Giodo

Giodo Brunello

Description

Giodo is a winery located in the heart of Montalcino, Tuscany, founded by internationally renowned winemaker Carlo Ferrini. With a career spanning decades, Ferrini has collaborated with some of Italy’s most prestigious wineries, contributing significantly to the success of Brunello di Montalcino around the world.

In 2002, Carlo together with his daughter Bianca, realized his dream of producing a wine that reflected his personal vision of Sangiovese, buying land in Montalcino and founding Giodo. The winery covers about 5 hectares of vineyards, planted exclusively with Sangiovese, with the goal of creating wines that best express the characteristics of the terroir.

Giodo’s vineyards are located at an altitude between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, with southeastern exposure, on soils rich in marl and limestone. These pedoclimatic conditions favor optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wines elegance, complexity and longevity.

Annual production is limited, and this choice reflects the company’s commitment to quality and attention to detail at every stage of production.

Carlo Ferrini’s dedication and deep knowledge of Sangiovese are reflected in the quality and elegance of the wines produced.

ALBERELS OF GIODO

In 2016, fascinated by Etna, he started the Alberelli di Giodo project, initially producing a pure Nerello Mascalese followed by a Carricante starting in 2020. The vines, located between 560 and 850 meters above sea level, are cultivated using the alberello system and coexist with olive and fruit trees. This combination of altitude, northern exposure and volcanic soils gives the wines a unique structure and marked minerality.

The Nerello Mascalese vines, some pre-phylloxera, are between 80 and 100 years old, while the Carricante vines are located between 800 and 900 meters above sea level and are about 50 years old. Overall annual production is limited highlighting the attention to quality and exclusivity of the wines produced.

The label of Alberelli di Giodo depicts a homino-vine representing the native grape variety, standing on the summit of the volcano, symbolizing the pure interpretation of Etna’s vineyards.

These wines are prized for their elegance, structure and ability to reflect Etna’s unique terroir, making them authentic expressions of Sicilian viticulture.
